To the Dolls, every day is one to celebrate the majestic creature known as the unicorn. There are countless ways to bask in the magic of unicorns. Celebrate your inner sparkle and share it with the world. April 9th is National Unicorn Day – an event we can all celebrate. These colorful cupcakes will give you all the magical unicorn vibes.
Unicorns are one of the world’s fantastical mythical beasts, with a proud history dating back to ancient times. So, on National Unicorn Day, please remember to thank a unicorn in your life.

We decided to make magical cupcakes to honor this special day and sharing a quick tutorial with you. It’s easier then you think.
UNICORN CUPCAKE TUTORIAL
You will need:
- White Cake Mix (we love Miss Jones)
- Buttercream Frosting (we love Miss Jones)
- Organic Food Coloring
- Cupcake Liners
- Decorating Bags
- Wilton XL Star Decorating Tip
- Wilton Star Decorating Tip
- White Pearl Sprinkles
- White Airheads
- Toothpicks
Set the oven to 350 degrees and follow the easy-to-follow directions on the packaging. Separate the batter into four bowls and add your desired food coloring. We love organic food coloring for unicorn pastels. Use a large spoon to alternate drops of colored cake batter into the cupcake liner. There is no wrong way to layer in the colored cake batter – have fun and remember…. YOU are a unicorn. Pop your cupcakes into the oven and in 15-18 minutes you will have small cake perfection.
Let the cupcakes cool and get ready for the really fun part. Separate your icing and add desired food colors. Wrap your frosting in cling wrap and place them side by side in an icing bag to create the incredible tie-dye patterns.
Use different sizes star shaped tips to create a unique unicorn pattern on the cupcakes. Add white pearls and shimmery sprinkles for an added touch of whimsy.
These cupcakes aren’t complete with out a majestic unicorn horn. This tasty edible version of the unicorn horn are so easy to make. Take a white mini air head and cut it into six strips. Wrap the strips around a tooth pick and voila!
Now that your insides are nourished with organic unicorn goodness, it’s time to express your unicorn vibes on the outside too.
Grab your best friend, throw on some sparkles and hit the town. The best part of being a unicorn is sharing your sparkle with the world around you – celebrating your family, your friends, the beautiful earth that we call home.
Being a unicorn is mainly all about the attitude but obviously there’s not a single person in the world who doesn’t want to look like a unicorn, too. We teamed up with Macy’s on State Street to pull ultra-glam Unicorn looks for any occasion. We dashed from aisles of designer clothing, to jewelry counters and all over the fab shoe department to sparkles and bows! This one stop-shop has it all… including entire glam squads in the beauty department. We fell in love with the team at Urban Decay – the entire staff is so friendly and professional. We trust our Glamorous Gangster, Mando, to make us look our best for the day of sparkle.
