Look Forward – Give Back

Over at the Dollhouse, Caitlin and Danielle love to have fun with their yoga practice – they also take their practice seriously. It is sacred to their souls, after all. Giving back to the universe and those who have become important in your life can be done in so many ways. You can donate your time, talents or funds to those in need. When you find something that is rewarding to your soul, sharing it with others is the best gift you can offer.  That is how the Dolls have felt about their journey to teach yoga from the start.

With each Doll having over 14 years of yoga experience, we have up-and-down-dogged almost every yoga clothing brand the zen tradition has to offer. The quality of what we wear on our physical being can also enhance this sacred practice. It was only recently that a VERY unique yoga apparel brand sparked a sparkle in their eyes, Joriki.

Joriki Yoga Apparel goes far beyond an admirable “look” we put on our bodies, each Joriki print represents a community rich in ancient textile traditions. Generations of women from impoverished nations around the world contributed to the creation of each pattern through their own cultural traditions. A portion of each purchase is donated to a humanitarian organization that helps the woman and children of these communities. What does the word Joriki mean? Joriki is the strong, individual power that arises when the mind unifies in Zazen concentration. This type of focus enables you to function on only instinctive action. The Yogi who develops Joriki is always in command of both the self and circumstances in ones life.

The Three goals of Zazen:

1. Joriki: Development of the power of concentration.
2. Kensho: Satori (true self) –Awakening.
3. Mujudo No Taigen: Actualization of the supreme way in our daily lives.

Caitlin is wearing the Bukhara Print indigenous to Uzbekistan, Central Asia. The print is known as the “moh” (moon) ikat pattern and is traditionally created with an ancient weaving technique that goes back nearly 2.5K years, when the emergence of the Great Silk Road gave rise to an array of textiles in Uzbekistan. The city of Bukhara is a cultural bridge between East and West that keeps this traditional pattern alive.

Danielle is wearing the Bhutan print which originates from the Kingdom of Bhutan. This pattern is built into the foundation of the Buddhist traditions. It was once created in temples and shrines to serve as gifts for monks. This specific print was inspired by the technique made popular in the Lhuntshi district of North Bhutan.
