Crown Braid Tutorial

January 29, 2016

Never leave home without your crown! This braid tutorial is a go-to hair style for the Dolls. A Crown Braid is the best way to wear your hair when you want to feel like the royalty you are.

This look is best worn one day after washing your hair. If your hair is just cleaned your locks will be too slippery and the braid won’t hold as well. You need a little friction to get this party started. Bonus –  you’re giving your tresses a rest from the heat of your hair dryer and other hair tools with this look.

Tap the video for full effect!

Crown Braid Step by Step Instructions:

  • Section the portion of your hair for the braid. Start behind your ear and draw a line to the other side. You can use your finger or a comb – whichever you prefer.
  • Select three strands of hair at one side of your head. Bring the right section under the middle, and the left section under the right. Then add a small piece of hair to the middle piece (now on the right side) and bring it under. Repeat by adding in hair from the left side and bringing that section under into the middle.
  • Continue the braid across to the other side, and be careful to place the braid to frame your face.
  • Pull the sections of the braid apart to create a fuller look and tie off the braid at the end with a clear elastic band (available at your local drugstore).
  • Secure the braid with bobby pins.
  • For a full halo crown, take a section from the remaining side and do a simple braid. Remember to pull sections loose to create a similar style braid on this end.
  • Secure the braid with bobby pins.
  • Voila! Your boho glam hairstyle is ready.

That was much simpler than I thought it would be. My arm gets really tired holding it up though haha thank you for sharing! Let me try that now.

I love the look of this, but I have curly hair and it’s nearly impossible to braid it unless it’s wet! Maybe I would have to straighten it… which is just another hassle. Boo curly hair!!

Hi Kaley! Thanks for commenting. One or two days after you straighten your hair, use a little dry shampoo and try it out! XO

Love this! I always have such high hopes of doing really cute things with my hair for hot yoga but I usually don’t have the patience. Maybe I’ll have to practice when I don’t have somewhere I have to be.
