When Caitlin and Dani were invited to Titanic: The Exhibition at Westfield Old Orchard, they were immediately transported back to their teenage years. The smell of fresh popcorn, the sensation of a salty tear running down their cheeks, and Celine Dion’s iconic ballad instantly came rushing back. They hadn’t met yet, but the two besties shared their core memories of the James Cameron Blockbuster hit. Instantly the Dolls knew they wanted to experience the interactive experience together.
This immersive experience is more than the movie. It’s an awe-inspiring journey on the Titanic. We learned stories of its passengers, saw hundreds of artifacts, and discovered the tale of the historic ship’s design, creation, launch, maiden voyage, and tragedy.
Once aboard, we received boarding passes corresponding with a passenger from the ship, allowing us to follow that passenger’s story through the first, second, and third-class galleries with their corresponding artifacts. The stories of love and loss culminate in the final galleries, showcasing personal effects and individual anecdotes surrounding a tribute wall where each passenger’s fate is revealed.
Music from the era played throughout the exhibit while we marveled at detailed recreations of the ship’s interiors. Our favorite was the two-story full-scale recreation of the ship’s famous Grand Staircase (and the clock where Jack & Rose met before their first class dinner). We also saw the first class hallway and millionaires suite, the third class hallway and cabin, the boiler room, and the ship exterior promenade deck complete with a starry night sky.
Titanic: The Exhibition is an interactive exhibition that tells the chronological and dramatic tale of the design, creation, launch, maiden voyage and tragedy of the largest and most luxurious ship in the world at that time. Guests can admire hundreds of artifacts that encompass items that survived the sinking of the Titanic and her sister ships, as well as props and costumes from the beloved James Cameron 1997 blockbuster film Titanic. Set inside fully immersive re-creations of the ship’s interior, the artifacts help navigate guests through Titanic’s timeline from sinking to underwater discovery.
