Wedding Season DIY

May 18, 2016

Wedding Season is officially in full swing! The Dolls love love -and are sure you do too! When wishing the best for our friends and family, it’s fun to add a little touch of heartfelt goodies here and there. This wedding season DIY is the perfect accessory for your favorite gal pal to bring on her honeymoon!

Just Married DIY Hat - Once Upon a Dollhouse

I’m sure you’ve all seen the divine “Do Not Disturb” hat by Eugenia Kim. It’s flawlessly cheeky and chic. It’s absolutely a-doll-able.

do-not-disturb-hat-once-upon-a-dollhouse

At a cool $450 …. just how much do you love it though… Enough to create your own, customized version for about $30?! Our sentiments exactly.

Just Married Beach Hat DIY

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Wide-Brimmed Straw Beach Hat (The Dolls picked used this one, available for $13.49)
  • String of Black Sequins (We love this, available for $12.95)
  • Fabric glue or all-purpose adhesive (Here’s what we used – don’t worry it dries clear!)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

It totally depends on your comfort level with penmanship, but you can either pencil an outline on the hat, or simply use the glue to write out each letter. To be honest, penciling the outline is surprisingly a bit trickier, as the straw braiding in the hat means variations in depth.

Just Married DIY Sun Hat

Write our one letter at a time with the glue, and remember that there is perfection in imperfections. Make the font your own and have fun with varying heights, loopdy-loops – whatever you want! You do want to be careful to make sure the sequin side is always facing up, so use extra precaution while laying out the string.

Caitlin gifted the hat to one of her very best friends and sister… That’s right, Katie was Cait’s little sister in their sorority at SLU. Diamonds are forever.

Katie and Caitlin - Once Upon a Dollhouse

From the time that Katie and Caitlin sat together in a dorm room eating ice cream (calories don’t count when you’re with your sisters) and discussing love lives… she has ALWAYS wanted a destination wedding.

Excellence Playa Mujeres - View from Bridal Suite

If there is anything the two of us have learned – dreams do come true, fairytales do exist and diamonds are forever.

Katie's Destination Wedding - Put a Ring on It

The wedding was an absolute blast – a gorgeous bride, beautiful location, wonderful people.

Excellence Playa Mujeres Beach

Waking up to white sand, clear blue skies and palm trees every morning set the vibe each day. After a winter in Chicago, Vitamin D was well welcomed!

Excellence Playa Mujeres

The resort at Excellence Playa Mujeres could not be a better couples destination – we enjoyed everything from poolside drinks, tennis, golf and water sports.

Excellence Playa Mujeres Water Sports

One lost key and pair of sunglasses later… getting wild on the jet ski was totally worth it! Cait showed no fear on this bad boy, as her boyfriend held tight for dear life 🙂

bridesmaids

How beautiful is this bride standing in front of us! #SquadGoals

bridesmaids and mojitos

“You guys – please go drink.” – says the least bridezilla bride I have ever met. Mojitos in Mexico mid photoshoot… Nailed it!

bridesmaids and mojitos

These girls were such a blast.

MR MRS KINNEY

SWOON! This couple is so sweet, caring and best of all funny! Wishing them all the happiness 🙂

What an adorable gift idea. I see that hat everywhere and I’ve had one in my online shopping cart for weeks but I don;t have the nerve to spend all the money on it. I never thought to do it as a DIY project.
