When it’s the season to be freezin, there are some days when Dolls must simply create their own sunshine. Amidst the frigid temps, early sunsets, hot cocoa & Netflix marathons, there are plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy the magic of this beautiful city. The Dollhouse calendar is packed with occasions to share our sparkle at any given time. Here are Caitlin and Danielle’s 5 favorite things to do in Chicago this winter.
TREAT YOURSELF
An occasional indulgence such as a massage or a facial should be part of every Doll’s winter beauty routine! The cold temps can cause us to tighten and tense up muscles and even induce an unneeded headache. Paul Groshko, owner of Spavia Lincoln Park in Chicago, is a firm believer that massage therapy is the best way to relieve the winter blues. Here’s why:
-
Improves breathing – When the muscles in the upper body are too tight, it can constrict breathing Massages can help relax these muscles.
-
Lowers blood pressure and heart rate – It has been proven that massages can lower both diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Studies have also shown that routine massages can lower heart rate, cortisol and insulin, all of which affect affect your stress level.
- Relieves headaches – Massages relax muscle spasms and trigger points that bring on headaches.
GO TO THE MOVIES
Award Season is here and Oscar buzz is going steadily. Movie studios have premiered their prestige films as contenders for awards consideration – and Dolls everywhere have the pick of the productions right now! Top on our list are La La Land, Passengers and Jackie.
Select a theater to make your night at the movies an experience. The Logan Theater has a classic style and the bar attached serves everything from PBR tall boys to a dirty martini.
GO TO A CONCERT
There’s nothing like the vibes of a live show to turn up the beat of your heart. Concerts make Caitlin and Danielle feel alive. Chicago’s premier mid-size venue in Wicker Park has some stellar shows coming up. Our favorite electronic jam project, Boombox is heating up the Midwest this winter with their funky beats. They are renowned for improvising their sets based off of the energy of the crowd. The blend of psychedelic rock with electronic is literally music to our ears.
Check them out at Concord Music Hall on January 13th and 14th.
TRY A NEW RESTAURANT
If there’s one thing you can find in Chicago, it’s really delicious food! Caitlin and Danielle recently visited AMK Kitchen Bar to check out the new menu from this creative American eatery. You may know the restaurant’s new chef, Angelina Bastidas – the youngest winner of Top Chef. What you may not know is that Angelina is a total Doll who has put her heart into the new menu focusing on local ingredients with a modern American twist.
YOGA IN THE SKY
Peace is in the air, literally at the Sears.. ahem Willis Tower. Imagine a morning of yoga atop the city’s tallest building with like-minded yogis and friends. Caitlin and Danielle had the pleasure to Namastay high with a fantastic Chicago studio, Yoga Six. Join us on February 4th at 7:30 am for the next session! These will take place on the first Saturday of every month until Spring.
